Hello,
I bought an old Hofner Bass from a friend who got it from someone who found
it in a basement, that's why it's in such a bad condition. special about it
is that it looks like the 4575 Guitar but I can't find any information on
any site or whatever that this bass was ever built or existed. I tried to
get in contact with hofner.com but they didn't answer. t is badly overpainted,
the frets are off and the Head-Inlays are in bad condition, but the electric
is complete and original. I am now trying to repair and restore it as good
as possible and I hope someone here can help me with some information. - There
are now some Schaller tuners on, could they be original? - I need a pickguard
and a trussrodcover. Dating would be interesting, it looks like the '66 guitar
(specially the plastic-parts) but has the '67 513-type pickups (I compared
the two models from hofner.com), I can't find any date, code or serialnumber
anywhere, not even on the pots I've yet put the white paint off as good as
possible and regained the original red colour like on the back, but the original
painting also in no good condition, the back of the neck will stay mostly
black I'm affraid, 'cause I don't want to refinish the bass, but try to get
it as original as possible. I refretted the neck and made the electric work
again where I had to renew the jack. When I have it complete, I'll make some
new pictures. So for some help and information I would be happy. greetings
from Germany. Silas [from a post on Hofner Hounds]
